I'm pretty intrigued by the NAA. They seem like the best bet in the Rust Belt. Hope the can ride out the chaos and emerge as a legitimate powerhouse.

I try to be fairly nuanced in my portrayal of various factions, but the wasteland does have its share of good guys and bad guys. The Midwest is a very hard-pressed region, but the NAA presents a bright future for it. They’re kind of like a more optimistic, less dogmatic and stubborn alternative to the USA-Dodge City. They’ve got their problems, maybe a troubling eagerness to accept and integrate rogue regimes and extreme militias, but they are pretty even-handed and well-intentioned in most of their dealings.

To use the “Old World/New World” dichotomy, Dodge City is on the Old World side, and the NAA is very New World, very eager to change and adapt to post-apocalyptic conditions and move on. USA-Bozeman, by contrast, is extremely Old World, and the Heartland Social Republic is extremely New World. This is a bit of a false dichotomy, but it’s a popular subject for debate in wasteland politics across various factions. The Ozarks, for its part, likes to boast that it’s the “oldest of the old world and newest of the new.”
